1. Then Environmental Steering is activated, the hearing instrument seems to
stop working and it seems like there is no amplification. Why?
2. Can the Danalogic i-FIT 71 TS be programmed as a TSG-only hearing
instrument?
3. Can more than one tinnitus program be programmed into the i-FIT 71 TS?
4. Does using the sound generator feature reduce battery lifetime?
5. Why is the TSG feature grayed out when I select a t-coil or DAI program?
Am I able to activate the TSG feature in these programs?
6. Can the volume control be used for both the hearing instrument and the
TSG simultaneously?
7. Are there conflicts between noise reduction settings and the TSG settings?
8. Is there a recommended DFS calibration presentation level for tinnitus
patients?
9. Is there a suggested default setting for Danalogic i-FIT 71 TS?
1. When Environmental Steering is activated, the hearing instrument seems to stop working and it seems like there is no amplification. Why?
This is actually expected, as the Environmental Classifier takes approximately 20 seconds to classify the environment upon activation. In most cases, this feature will be activated in a clinic where there is speech taking place, and most likely ambient noise.
The feature is designed to reduce the Tinnitus Sound Generator (TSG) volume in speech environments, or noisy environments, hence why the volume decreases. The volume will again increase after about 20 seconds.
2. Can the Danalogic i-FIT 71 TS be programmed as a TSG-only hearing instrument?
Yes. By removing any additional programs and setting up Program 1 as ‘Sound Generator’ the instrument will act as a TSG only device.
3. Can more than one tinnitus program be programmed into the i-FIT 71 TS?
Yes. You can select ‘Sound Generator’ or ‘Sound Generator + Amplification’ in any one of the four programs, and customise the settings in each program.
4. Does using the sound generator feature reduce battery lifetime?
Internal trials demonstrated no significant difference between test subjects using 71 and 71 TS hearing instruments
5. Why is the TSG feature grayed out when I select a t-coil or DAI program? Am I able to activate the TSG feature in these programs?
The TSG feature is grayed out since most tinnitus sufferers do not find their tinnitus as bothersome when on the phone or when auditory input is available, and providing noise during these situations may interfere and conflict with understanding. In addition, since all T-coil programs (other than T-coil + M) deactivate the primary microphone, the Environmental Steering feature is inactive, which is dependent on input to the microphone to classify the listening environment. In order to activate the TSG in conjunction with a T-coil program, one must select the T-coil +M option. TSG cannot be run simultaneously with a DAI program.
6. Can the volume control be used for both the hearing instrument and the TSG simultaneously?
The VC cannot be active for both the hearing instrument and sound generator in the same program, but the VC can work for each function in separate programs.
7. Are there conflicts between noise reduction settings and the TSG settings?
No. Noise reduction only influences inputs processed by the microphone in the hearing instrument mode, not the TSG.
8. Is there a recommended DFS calibration presentation level for tinnitus patients?
Similar to a hearing-impaired person (without tinnitus issues), some tinnitus patients may have tolerance or loudness issues.
In such cases, reducing the DFS calibration level (by hitting ‘Cancel’ and choosing to reduce the presentation level by 6dB) may be more comfortable and tolerable to the user.
9. Is there a suggested default setting for Danalogic i-FIT 71 TS?
Literature shows broadband signals appear to be most effective when using sound generators in therapy, rather than a narrow band focused on the frequency of the tinnitus.
Danalogic i-FIT 71 TS offers the flexibility to do both, depending on what is preferred. The volume should be set at a level that is both comfortable and effective in masking the tinnitus signal (the tinnitus should not be overmasked), which will differ from user to user.
The Amplitude Modulation and Environmental Steering features are options that are turned off by default and can be activated should the user find them comfortable and beneficial to help achieve tinnitus relief. There is no single recommended setting for these features as they will change from user to user.
